The first school of navigation: who could have founded it better than a Portuguese who would later go down in history with the fitting name of Henry the Navigator? The location, Cape Säo Vincente on the south-western tip of the European mainland, was also ideally suited as a starting point for the numerous famous voyages of discovery in the 15th century. Vasco da Gama found the sea route to India and Magellan from here.
