The stalactites and stalagmites here shimmer in shades of yellow, red and pink at temperatures of six to seven degrees Celsius. The water running down the walls leaves behind mineral deposits, so-called sinter curtains and sinter water lilies: Welcome to the Demänovská Cave of Freedom in the Low Tatras! Demänovská jaskyňa Slobody is a Slovak natural monument and part of the Demänová cave system near the Jasna ski resort. The cave was formed during the Middle Triassic period, between 228 and 246 million years ago: The Demänovka stream flowing through the limestone formed the cave. The dripstone cave was discovered in 1921 and is now a popular tourist destination: the Demänovka still flows through the cave system today. The cave can be explored on a guided tour.
