The ‘Tecnoparco’ in Syracuse is a delight for technology enthusiasts and those who enjoy experimenting. The museum is dedicated to the famous Greek scholar Archimedes, who was born here in south-eastern Sicily. The Tecnoparco has an impressive collection of exhibits that illustrate Archimedes’ ideas.
A highlight of the museum is the large interactive exhibition that allows visitors to experience Archimedes‘ inventions and discoveries up close. For example, you can don virtual reality goggles and step into ancient Greece to use Archimedes’ ‘reflecting mirror’ to reflect the sun’s rays and repel the enemy Roman siege of the city.
There are also many different workshops where you can learn a lot about the principles of mechanics, optics and hydrostatics, experiment with forces, weights and levers, or build a catapult.
The museum also offers a comprehensive exhibition about the life and culture in the ancient city of Syracuse, where Archimedes lived until his death in 212 BC. There are models of the city and the buildings that existed in his time, as well as a wealth of artefacts that bring the history and culture of this city to life.
