Triglav National Park is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places in Slovenia. The national park covers an area of over 800 square kilometres and is located in the heart of the Julian Alps. It is one of the oldest protected areas in Europe.
The national park is named after the highest mountain in Slovenia, Triglav, which is an emblem of the country. The mountain is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. There are also a variety of hiking and biking trails that lead through the area and offer wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. There are also rivers and lakes that are suitable for fishing and kayaking.
The nature in the Triglav National Park is home to 4,000 animal and many plant species. 200 million years ago, the mountains were still underwater. That is why numerous well-preserved fossils can still be found in the mountains today. The park is also known for its numerous mountain lakes with crystal-clear blue water and spectacular waterfalls, including the Savica Waterfall, which plunges 53 metres from a cliff.
For those interested in culture, Triglav National Park also offers a wealth of attractions and historical sites. There are numerous old churches and chapels hidden away in the mountains, offering a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
